The Egg Freezing Procedure

The egg freezing procedure, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, involves several steps:

Stimulation: Medications are used to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs at once. This is similar to the initial phase of in vitro fertilization (IVF). These medications are typically self-administered as injections over a period of 10-12 days.

Monitoring: During this time, you'll undergo regular monitoring through pelvic ultrasounds and blood tests to track egg development and adjust medication as needed.

Egg Retrieval: Once the eggs are mature, a minimally invasive procedure is performed to retrieve them from the ovaries. This is done using a transvaginal ultrasound guided needle that aspirates the follicular fluid containing the eggs. You'll likely be under mild sedation for comfort,

Freezing: The retrieved eggs undergo a special freezing process called vitrification. This rapid freezing technique helps preserve the eggs' quality for future use. The frozen eggs are then stored in liquid nitrogen tanks for long-term storage.

The Success of Egg Freezing

The success of Egg Freezing and Egg Retrieval depends upon a number of factors, such as the age of the patient.  Please contact our office for specific details on IVF success rates.
